The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters. – Audrey Hepburn
The golden ticket is to be happy, right? That’s what we all strive for. But it’s fucking hard sometimes to stay happy. We are supposed to remain grateful for what we have, surround ourselves with things to brighten our day, maintain a balance in our psyche. There is so much pressure to be positive, it’s exhausting.
That said, I do think it’s important to do things you love, whether that be as a career, sport, activity, or hobby. And to make sure that the people in your life support that. But it is also just as important to let yourself be sad, angry, depressed, negative. Because those are real feelings too.
So, maybe it’s really about acceptance. Allowing yourself to be who you are and being okay with that. Every Wednesday in my reader group we do a thing called “Mental Health Check-in.” A post asks how you’re doing, with a rating system spanning from “great” to “I’m suffering and need help.”
And the most miraculous thing has happened. Over the months we’ve been doing it, it has expanded from just me connecting with the group to group members connecting with and supporting one another. And it’s a beautiful fucking thing to be a part of.
While you and I may not know one another personally, be assured that if you are in need of a support system, I’m here for you. And check out the group, even if you only do it on Wednesdays. Because a great bunch of people resides there ready to support you as well.
